Blocking Unwanted Calls
Call Screening helps you reduce unwanted and nuisance calls by giving you more control over how incoming calls are handled. From this section, you can choose which calls are allowed to ring through to your phone and which calls are blocked before they reach you.
Call Screening works in the background and can be adjusted at any time, giving you peace of mind without disrupting calls you want to receive.
Accessing Call Screening
- From the Home screen, select the menu icon () in the top-left corner.
- Select Call Screening from the menu
The Call Screening area will open in a new screen with two sections: Settings and Number Lists
Understanding the Call Screening Screen
Call Screening has two main areas:
Settings
The Settings section controls how certain types of calls are handled, such as calls from private or unknown numbers. These options help reduce unwanted calls automatically, without requiring you to block individual numbers.
Number Lists
The Number Lists section lets you manage specific phone numbers. From here, you can:
- Allow important numbers so they always ring through
- Block specific numbers you do not want to receive calls from
These setting control how incomming calls are handeled. Found in the Call Screening > Settings menu.
Enable Service - Yes / No
Turns Call Screening on or off. When set to Yes, call screening rules are active. When set to No, all calls will ring through normally.
Private Numbers - Challenged / Allowed / Blocked
- Challenged - Callers who block their caller ID will hear a message asking them to press 1 to verify they are not a telemarketer. After they press 1, the call will ring through to you.
- Allowed - All private (caller ID blocked) calls will ring through normally with no prompt.
- Blocked - All private calls will be blocked unless the caller's number is on your Allowed (Approved) Numbers list.
Unknown Numbers - Challenged / Allowed / Blocked
- Challenged - Callers from unknown numbers will hear a message asking them to press 1 to verify they are not a telemarketer. After they press 1, the call will ring through to you.
- Allowed - All unknown-number calls will ring through normally with no prompt.
- Blocked - All unknown-number calls will be blocked unless the caller's number is on your Allowed (Approved) Numbers list.
Distinctive Ring - Don't Play / 2-60 seconds (in 2-second intervals)
Distinctive Ring controls whether a special ring or alert is played before a call connects.
This can help you recognize certain screened or allowed calls before answering.
- Don't Play - Calls will ring normally with no special alert.
- 2-60 seconds - A distinctive ring or alert will play for the selected amount of time before the call connects.
Tip: Most customers can leave the default Call Screening settings in place and simply manage calls by adding numbers to the Allowed or Blocked lists.

Number Lists
The Number Lists section lets you manage specific phone numbers that are allowed or blocked by Call Screening. From this page, you can add important numbers so they always ring through, or block numbers you no longer want to receive calls from.
Changes made here take effect right away and can be updated at any time.
Allowed Numbers
The Allowed Numbers list includes phone numbers that are always allowed to ring through to your phone.
Numbers may be added to the Allowed Numbers list in two ways:
- Automatically - When a caller is challenged and presses 1 to verify they are not a telemarketer, their number is automatically added to the Allowed Numbers list.
- Manually - You can add trusted numbers directly through the online portal, or direct dial from your landline.
Once a number is on the Allowed Numbers list, calls from that number will ring through normally without any screening prompts.
Blocked Numbers
The Blocked Numbers list includes phone numbers that you have chosen to block.
- Blocked numbers are manually added by you, either through the online portal or using direct dial options on your phone.
- Calls from numbers on the Blocked Numbers list will not ring through.
Important to Know
If a caller hangs up without pressing 1 during a screening challenge, their number is not added to the Blocked Numbers list. That caller may try calling again, but your phone will not ring until they successfully complete the screening by pressing 1.
Using the Actions Menu
The Actions menu lets you quickly manage numbers in your Allowed andBlocked lists. This menu is available from the Number Lists page and provides shortcuts for adding or removing numbers.
To open the Actions menu, select the green circular button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
